Context

'Tibet In Norwich' was driven by the goal to expose hidden narratives within the museum's collection. By reaching out to communities and exploring the museum's own archive, different perspectives emerged.

Perspectives From Tibet

Community-based approaches are key when addressing objects with colonial histories. I reached out to the Director of the Tibet Museum, Tenzin Topdhen, to ask for his perspective.

Hadow's Letters

In Norwich Castle Museum's archives, there are a collection of letters written by Lt. Arthur Hadow, the man responsible for looting these objects from Tibet. In letters to his mother and father, he details their acquisition.
